* these old ‘new’ england houses

Leaving all comfortable things behind us, we departed from Colorado and drove to New England.

The rental home we found and contracted for one year over Craigslist welcomed us in a gloomy way. It was built in 1880, Victorian style,  and badly tilted  floors, squeaky floors and stairs, and dirty walls due to the length of time it was rented(maybe over 20 years).

However, we really were thankful for that we drove and moved safely in time, in God’s hands.

After 9 month of living there, we bought a cozy house in the same city. When it came on the market we were the first people to see it, and we made an offer on the spot. On that night, the owner accepted our offer. The next day, couple more people offered a higher price. But it was too late for them. Thank God!

new home

This little cute house belonged to an old couple. They were the second owner of the house(built in 1940), raised 3 children and lived 49 years in it. They maintained this house well enough to impress us and convince us to buy it on the first visit. The soothing sunlight-filled rooms and well manicured backyard entranced us to buy it.

However, it needed some work like removing out-dated wall paper that covered all of the walls,  painting, renovating the main bathroom, and updating the kitchen. Not only that, we had to build 3 beds with space for storage underneath them, and construct a closet in our master bedroom, because of the lack of closet space in the house. Many more projects are to come, and I can’t wait to share my experiences with you!
